How To Protect Children In A Divorce

At Ashmore & Ashmore Law Firm, we had a round table discussion with our Attorneys to hear their top ways to protect children in a Texas divorce. Here is what we discussed:

KC Ashmore

- Do not start dating or introduce the next boyfriend girlfriend to your children

- Do not drink alcohol during on your weekends of possession

- Do not record each other’s exchanges conversations interactions, if things get ugly or unpleasant hire a private investigator to follow you around with a body camera

Brad Johnson

- Do NOT discuss the case, or the shortcomings of the other parent, with the kids, no matter how old they are

- Do NOT tell the kids they can decide who they’re going to live with. They can’t

- DO let the kids talk about how they’re feeling without judging them or trying to tell them how they SHOULD feel. When they do, if there’s cause for concern, find them some help: school counselor, therapist, etc

Jennifer Ashmore

- Don’t involve the kids

- Allow the kids to have a relationship with the other parent

- Allowing kids to talk to their parents without you being involved is a good idea (a phone you aren’t monitoring)

- Keeps parents in the loop with school activities and sports

- If your child is being abused by the other spouse then call the police and cps if warranted

We work together as a team to protect our clients. This is what sets Ashmore & Ashmore Law Firm apart. Give us a call today for a free consultation.
