Do you have your own credit? Do you have any bills in your own name? Have you owned a car? Have you purchased a home? It's imperative to make sure you're establishing credit in your name, and actually paying and making payments on time.
Evaluate joint finances.
Find out what's in your name, and what's in your spouses. Do you share a bank account? Debit card? Credit card? Car loan? Mortgage? Stocks? The list could go on and on, and get complicated. Start early and evaluate as soon as you can.
Gather proof of income.
Get you pay stubs, paychecks, and any other income you have gathered and ready to show. Someone at some point will ask for it, you might as well get ready.
